Six Ingredients to Avoid in Cleaning Products

Cleaning products have been linked to all manner of poisonings in both children and pets. Unfortunately, the government doesn’t require cleaning companies to list ingredients on product labels. The most responsible companies will list their ingredients on labels anyway, but those instances are rare. When you’re trying to figure out if that new “green” toilet bowl cleaner with the leaf on the bottle is just as gentle as the brand you’ve been using for years, look to see if the new cleaner advertises what it doesn’t contain. Key words like “no chlorine,” “no ammonia,” etc., are helpful in ferreting out the greenest products on the shelf.  To find the safest, greenest cleaners, look for the six chemicals below on a “Does not contain” list.
